The Brief

The company’s intentions in mind were to design an intuitive fitness app, that provides a seamless user experience and easily leads and engages people in the process of establishing a healthy lifestyle together, as a community. A place where people share the same goals and push each other. On this project, my role was UX/UI Designer and I was working closely with the Designers, Engineers, and Product Managers.

Design Process

Competitor Analysis

The first step in the design process was to research the target audience, competitors, and industry trends. This gave us insight into user needs and preferences, as well as to identify any gaps in the market that our app can fill.

Quantitative Research

For quantitative research, I interviewed more than 10 people who were targeted users. With this research, I wanted to evaluate their current experience with the existing fitness app features, ideas, and functions, and if there is something that they wish to be integrated into a fitness app.

This research-driven approach forms the bedrock upon which our personas were crafted, ensuring that our design decisions are anchored in a deep understanding of our users and the evolving fitness landscape.

Through careful analysis and iterative design, we crafted user flows that prioritize clarity, efficiency, and user satisfaction. This section explores the thoughtful strategies and decisions behind the user journey, ensuring that every interaction aligns with our user-centric design approach.

Design Vision

Following meticulous research and analysis, our design vision for the fitness app has been meticulously crafted to meet the precise needs and aspirations of health-conscious individuals. The culmination of our research insights has led to the integration of the following pivotal features:

  1. Calendar Functionality:

    • Seamlessly empowers users to create and manage workout schedules.
    • Provides a visual representation to track their fitness journey with precision, informed by research-backed insights.
  2. Group Interaction:

    • Leverages research findings to foster a sense of community, connecting users with like-minded fitness enthusiasts.
    • Incorporates group challenges to encourage sustained motivation and engagement, aligning with research on social support in fitness.
  3. Workout Repository:

    • Synthesizes research on effective exercise regimes to curate a diverse library of workouts.
    • Employs clear, step-by-step instructions and progress tracking, enhancing user engagement and adherence to fitness routines.
  4. Nutritional Excellence:

    • Draws from nutritional research to offer personalized recipes, meal plans, and a food diary.
    • Empowers users with evidence-based dietary guidance to maintain optimal nutrition levels.
  5. Tailored Fitness Programs:

    • Utilizes research-driven insights to develop structured fitness programs tailored to individual goals and preferences.
    • Promotes adherence and consistency through routines informed by research on habit formation.
  6. Seamless Communication:

    • Incorporates user feedback and research on community building to facilitate effortless communication.

In conclusion, our design vision for the fitness app is the result of extensive research and analysis. It reflects our commitment to creating a user-centric platform that not only meets but exceeds the expectations of individuals on their journey to improved health and fitness, with every feature underpinned by research-backed insights.

    Wireframes

    Next step was the critical phase of wireframing, where we transform conceptual ideas into tangible, visual representations. Wireframes serve as the blueprint for our app’s functionality and layout, meticulously planning each screen’s design and interactions. We walk you through the process of crafting wireframes, showcasing how we prioritize user navigation, content placement, and overall usability.

    Design

    The design of the app describes a seamless and intuitive onboarding experience to guide users from the moment they first open the app. From easy log-in/sign-up options to profile customization and preference settings, the onboarding screens ensure a personalized and tailored user experience.

    The Calendar feature allows users to set up specific workout times, ensuring dedicated slots for exercise. Users can easily view all their scheduled activities sorted by date and time in the history section. Additionally, the statistics section offers valuable insights into calorie burns. 

    With the workout feature, SAIS will guide the user through the workout by tracking essential metrics such as calories burned, duration, heart rate, and distance. Additionally, we implemented a map feature that helps you find the best areas for running or exercising, ensuring you have the optimal environment to reach your fitness goals. With the notification system, the user will receive timely reminders for scheduled exercises, ensuring to stay on track with fitness goals. 

    The diet feature provides the user with a variety of healthy meals and recommendations. When the user sets up his goal to lose or gain weight, the user will see cooking instructions and recipes with specifications of calories on the meals.

    The app offers a diverse array of training programs, ensuring there’s something for everyone. The programs are carefully crafted to provide a comprehensive training experience, guiding the user through each step of the fitness routine. The user can follow the instructions, track scores, and monitor progress, ensuring stay on top of the user’s fitness goals.

    The Message feature in SAIS fosters a strong sense of community within the app. With private chat functionality, you can connect with your gym buddies and share your fitness journey. The app also provides a platform for collective support and sharing achievements, because together, we can inspire and motivate one another to reach new fitness heights. Groups were implemented to foster a strong fitness community. 

    Learnings

    Throughout the process of designing a fitness app, I embarked on a transformative journey of exploration and innovation. With a deep passion for fitness and a desire to empower individuals on their health journeys, I set out to create a user-centric app that would inspire, motivate, and guide users toward their fitness goals.

    I focused on developing features that would enhance their experiences, such as intuitive onboarding screens, a comprehensive calendar for scheduling activities, and personalized workout routines tailored to their goals and preferences. Additionally, I integrated social and community-oriented features, allowing users to connect, share achievements, and support one another on their fitness journeys. While the design of the fitness app has been well-received and has met many user needs, I am continually striving for improvement. Feedback from users has highlighted areas for enhancement, such as integrating additional tracking capabilities, expanding the variety of workout programs, and refining the nutrition tracking feature.
